Christmas Eve 2009

We had our annual Christmas Eve at Nana and Pop-Pop's! Trevor got "Spike" the dinosaur and Skylar got a My Generation Doll. They also got a bunch of other stuff from Santa and Nana & Pop-Pop! We had dinner and opened presents and visited, but we had to leave earlier than usual because of the weather. We had snow and some ice and it was really pretty. Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas!

Snowfall in Dec 2009

The kids loved playing in the snow this afternoon. It started snowing about 3pm and we went out at about 4pm. They made three snowmen, had snowball fights, Maggie made a snow-angel and we even had snowcones with freshly fallen snow! The picture of the house at night was actually taken on Christmas Eve! Afterwards we had a hot bath and pizza for dinner-what a great day. Hope everyone is well.

Skylar received the Principal's Award on Friday, December 11th at the Celebrate Smith assembly. Skylar was the recipient for the 1st grade class. Each 6 weeks one child is selected per grade to receive this award and it is given in honor of those students who show expemplary student qualities. Mrs. Foster, Skylar's teacher, wrote a poem that describes Skylar:

"The Principal's award winner goes to someone,
Who is not only a great student, but a load of fun!
This 1st grade student is from Mrs. Foster's class,
Although with her great behavior, a 2nd grader she could pass.
She is hard working, caring and helpful indeed,
I can always count on her to take the lead.
Her smile and attitude will brighten anyone's day,
Her love of learning and ambition make me say. . .
That I'm so very proud of my 1st grade friend,
You deserve this award Miss Skylar Sutherland!"

Skylar enjoys getting a picture with Principal Kimball!

How did we get so lucky as to have had the best Kindergarten teacher ever (Miss. Beakley) and now the best 1st grade teacher ever?? Thank you Mrs. Foster!
Just a side note: The children were arranged Kinder to 5th grade and Skylar was about a head shorter than the Kindergartener! Too funny!

Halloween 2009

Trevor was a shark and Skylar was Taylor Swift for Halloween. Todd got creative on both costumes because Pottery Barn was sold out of Trev0r's-so Todd made a shark costume! He also made Skylar's guitar using a piece of wood and he and Skylar colored it. Very cool! Hope everyone is having a great Fall so far!

The Big Orange Pumpkin Farm 2009

We go every year to the Big Orange Pumpkin Farm in Celina. It is a great place to go every fall to get our yearly pumpkin. This year friends were having their son's 4th birthday celebration there, so off we went. Enjoy some pictures!

1st Day of 1st Grade

Skylar's first day of 1st Grade was great. She was excited and seems to love her new teacher, Mrs. Foster. Skylar and Maggie have different teachers this year, but their classes are next to each other so they still get to see each other a lot. I think it is going to be a great year!

Fort Worth Zoo, August 2009

We had a great time at the zoo-it was hot, but it was not nearly as crowed as it was the last time we went with Nana & Pop-Pop. Also, Daddy got to join us on this trip. We saw lots of neat animals and got to ride the train. They also petted an Armadillo named Digger! Lots of fun!

Skylar's 1st Ballet Recital

Skylar took ballet this year for the first time at Sheena's Dance Studio. She enjoyed it, but I think she liked it most because her best buddy Maggie was in the class with her! Her recital was on Saturday, June 6th and it was adorable. The girls had their hair and makeup done at Sweet And Sassy on Friday afternoon, complete with glitter hairspray and then they performed at the dress rehearsal and had pictures made. (Aunt Amanda came later on Friday afternoon to take some professional pics of the girls-thank you Aunt Amanda!!) We chose not to get their hair done on Saturday and instead I found some pretty, foam filled sleep caps that they wore over their "do's". It must have worked, because the hairdo's lasted the night and were performance worthy on Saturday afternoon. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

School Days 2009

What a great first year of school Skylar had-she had the best time in Kindergarten and I am so glad. She really loves school and did a good job. She worked hard, but it paid off because she is really starting to excel at her reading and writing. Todd did a great job on homework duty! Can't wait for next year!

"Elephant's Have Wrinkles"
The Kindergarten Performance

"Field Day" and all the girls had to have a hairstyle like Miss. Beakley-good thing she brought extra hairbands!!

Maggie and Skylar at the "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" Kindergarten performance.

Miss Beakley-the BEST kindergarten teacher God ever made!!
